Whenever I look at the night sky, I remember the fond memories of my mother and me going out to the rice field behind our house almost every night to watch. She was trying to correct my nearsightedness. I was about 10 years old and enjoyed this relaxing time with my busy mother. After my vision was slightly corrected, we resolved to appreciate the slight improvement. However, even after we gave up trying for full correction of my vision, we went to the rice field to observe many astronomical events such as meteor showers, lunar eclipses, etc. Fall was the best time because we were able to lay on the ground and no mosquitos to torture us. My mother passed away in May 2021. I always feel her watching the night sky with me.

夜空を見上げるたびに、母と二人で家の裏の田んぼへ出かけ、ほとんど毎晩のように夜空を眺めていた、懐かしい思い出がよみがえります。母は、私の近視を少しでも改善しようとしていたのです。

当時、私は10歳くらいでした。忙しい母と過ごすその穏やかな時間が、私は大好きでした。視力が少し改善すると、私たちはそのわずかな変化を喜び合いました。しかし、視力を完全に治すことを諦めた後も、私たちは田んぼへ通い、流星群や月食など、さまざまな天文現象を観察しました。

秋は、地面に寝転んで空を眺めることができ、蚊にも悩まされなかったので、特に良い季節でした。

母は2021年5月に亡くなりました。今でも夜空を見上げると、母が私と一緒に空を眺めているように感じます。
